Whether crossing the desert with you one-year-old, exploring the Arctic or chasing elusive ice climbs – Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour stories are chosen to celebrate more than outdoor exploration. They also celebrate the character-building that adventure inevitably sparks: inner explorations of human bonds, trust, and how we value one another and our world.

Featuring the Australian epic Crossing the Outback with professional adventurer Justin Jones and his family, the 2020 World Tour is an exhilarating and provocative exploration of the adventure world. Give your adventure dreams more oxygen this year, with the 2020 Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour

FILMS INCLUDE:

GOOD MORNING - 4 minutes. Be inspired by professional skier, Richard Permin’s morning routine.

THABANG - 14 minutes. Thabang Madiba lives in the South African township of Ga-Rankuwa, without a mountain in sight… nor a physio, chiro or dietician. But through hard work, dedication and passion, he became the first black South African to represent the country in trail running, and has won the South African Trail Running Championships multiple times.

CROSSING THE OUTBACK - 40 minutes. The Jonesys are a modern-day family of adventurers trying to settle down and build a life of adventure. With their one-year-old daughter, Lauren and Justin Jones set out on a journey to walk 1800km on an unaccompanied, self supported expedition from the centre of Australia (Docker River, NT) to the coast (Port Augusta, SA).

THE FRENCHY - 13 minutes. Jacques Houot, 82, may just have found the fountain of youth. The Colorado-based French ski racer, downhill mountain biker, road cyclist and incorrigible flirt is the embodiment of joie de vivre. Jacques has survived countless close calls, including avalanches, cancer, car accidents, a heart attack and even attempted murder.

SIBLINGS - 4 minutes. Get on your bikes and take a spin with your favourite biking buddies. For some it is their siblings and that sibling rivalry never dies.

A LIFE ON ICE - MYRTLE SIMPSON - 25 minutes. Myrtle Simpson - trailblazer, pioneer, adventurer, mountain climber, polar explorer, writer, and mother. From Spitzbergen to Greenland, from the North Pole to the Highlands of Scotland, from New Zealand to Peru, Myrtle blazed her own trail. She experienced places most people only dream about, all while writing 13 books, collecting specimens for museum botanical collections and raising four children. This is her story.

GONE TOMORROW - ICE CLIMBING IN KENTUCKY - 20 minutes. This offbeat documentary takes us for a bourbon-fuelled ride deep into the bushy hollers of Appalachia with a crew of harmless misfits as they race to search out and climb new ice routes before they’re gone.

HORS PISTE - 6 minutes. The two best rescue workers of the region are ready for their new mission. Despite their professionalism and their determination, it will not go as planned… Winner of 51 festival awards (including a BAFTA for best student film) and an Oscar nomination for best animated short.
