RENT FOR 48 HOURS: A carefully curated program of running films that will take you to Morocco, Wales, Faroe Islands, Ireland and the European Alps; all on foot and at pace. Revel in the highs and lows of long distance running. This program features an introduction by Hanny Allston, record breaking endurance runner and World Orienteering Champion and 5 running films:

Aziza: 7 mins The call to prayer is a familiar sound in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. Five times a day the minaret sounds, and people from all across Moroccan valleys pause to say their prayers. The people of these villages are proud of their traditions, and many are subsistence farmers who work hard to make a living and maintain their families. This is no different for Aziza Raji, it’s just that despite the daily tasks that are expected of her, she manages to find time to train to be one of the rising stars of Moroccan ultra-running. Set in the streets of Bou Tharar and the wide, craggy valleys of the lower Atlas, ‘Aziza’ is the story of a young woman who has thrived in the world of ultra-racing. The combination of her ambition, determination, and the loving support of her family has helped her to overcome many social and cultural challenges, and has made her a role model for other up-and-coming athletes in Morocco.

COMING HOME - Ag Teacht Abhaile: 24 mins Paddy O’Leary grew up in Wexford, Ireland, but didn’t discover his love and talent for running until he moved to San Francisco. Now, he is returning to Ireland to take on the fastest known time on the self-navigated 115 kilometre Wicklow Round, and to rediscover his home through the lens of running.

Beyond the Doubt: 42 mins This is the story of three teams crossing the alps in an iconic multi-day trail running event called the Transalpine Run. In this gruelling race the teams of 2 have to overcome their physical and even more mental barriers and in doing so experience the full range of emotions. From excitement and confidence at the start over lurking self-doubt and distressing fear of failure, to pure bliss, relief and joyfulness when finally crossing the finish line of the last stage.

INTERMISSION

Today he is a pastor of the Lutheran Church, the dominant religion on the island. He is also a compulsive runner, finding solace and spiritual refuge from personal conflicts and the burdens of priesthood on the trails and roads of his homeland. He may inhabit a very different world, but his words will ring true to anyone who has found peace in nature. “Somehow I am driven to it,” he says. “The body needs it, or my soul, my mind.”
